Welcome Back! Here's how to find us.

Greetings, and welcome back to NSCAD for the Fall 09 semester. If you're new to NSCAD, and haven't yet checked out the Visual Resources Collection, please come in for a visit. We're located on the 3rd floor of the Duke Street building, just left off the elevator.

We've got lots of new additions to our DVD library, including a full run of the films of Andrea Dorfman, a set of early Robert Frank films, and a well rounded selection of French New Wave films. Among other new additions, we have a set of documentaries by Aboriginal Canadian filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin, (read about her ), and a set of 4 films by British dramatic-documentarian Peter Watkins.

Highlights of our digital resources include, of course, our newly-acquired access to the million plus image collection ARTstor, available on and off-campus, (http://www.artstor.org) and the Wilson Art Museum Image Gallery (available here: Wilson Art Gallery )

Other new additions to our image research links are the fantastic Victoria & Albert Museum image collection: http://www.vandaimages.com/index.asp , and the site 'Imaging The French Revolution (http://chnm.gmu.edu/revolution/imaging/), which is an excellent resource for those of you enrolled in 19th Century Art History.

NSCAD Library: Now offering ARTstor

Greetings! We in the NSCAD Library and Visual Resources Collection are very pleased to now offer ARTstor, the digital image library and presentation tool resource, that holds over one million images for education and research.

VRC Highlights: Art Bank Collection

In 2004, the Visual Resources Collection acquired a donation from the Canada Council Art Bank, of approximately 160 films and videos. The collection includes works by Canadian filmmakers and video artists such as Pierre Falardeau, Zacharias Kunuk, Sara Diamond, as well as Nova Scotia's Jan Peacock and Doug Porter.

The unique group of works is available to search and view on NSCAD premises. Please contact us to make an
appointment. A list of items in this collection is posted on the blog, along with our other listings of films and videos.

NSCAD University Visual Resources Collection

Greetings,

Welcome to the NSCAD University Visual Resources Collection blog. This site is intended to provide
information for our community and patrons.

The NSCAD VRC was initiated to support the teaching of NSCAD U's art history department more than 30 years ago, and over the years has extended its collection to serve the wider scope of NSCAD's community.

Our collection includes over 125,000 35mm slides, approximately 2000 DVDs and videos, and a collection of NFB films. We also have holdings of special collections, including artist videos from the Canada Council Art Bank, and a selection of analog and digital audio recordings.

Over the next few months, we will develop a resource of digital images, in conjunction with the University of Toronto's FADIS image bank. These images will be available for instructors and students to use on campus, with off-campus access as well.
